Toby Paterson is a Glasgow-based artist whose paintings, reliefs and sculptural installations reflect on the visual experience offered over time by art and architecture of post-war Britain. Paterson studied at Glasgow School of Art and the School of Art Institute of Chicago, winning the Beck’s Futures Prize in 2002. He received a Creative Scotland Award in 2006.
His work often expresses a particular interest in the post-war reinvention of cities under the influence of Modernism and how the cultural outcome of that is expressed. Recent projects include solo exhibitions in Saint Nazaire in France, Zurich, Glasgow and Braga in Portugal and a Scotland-wide solo touring exhibition. He was commissioned to create a public art work for BBC Scotland’s headquarters in Glasgow and the new Renfrew Health and Social Work Centre.
