Patricia MacDonald (1945 – )

Born in Edinburgh, Patricia MacDonald is an environmental researcher and award-winning artist photographer. She is an alumna of the University of Edinburgh where she obtained a doctorate in Biological Science in 1973.

MacDonald’s work explores the intersections between environmental history, conservation, perception and iconography in art. Many of her recent works, like those seen here, involve the use of aerial photography in collaboration with her husband Professor Angus MacDonald through the Aerographica partnership.

Some of the artist’s most recent commissions include a composite aerial artwork of the Cairngorms between 1988 and 2016 (as seen here), and Bunkered Terrain: Scottish Golf Landscapes, (2011-14) a collaborative project between the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the National Galleries of Scotland that explore the ecological effects of leisure landscapes.
