Sekai Machache (1980 -)

Sekai Machache is a Zimbabwean-Scottish, multidisciplinary artist. Machache explores her Zimbabwean heritage through spirituality, Scottish identity, and the African diaspora. The Divine Sky series is a project which brings all her practices together, drawing, printmaking, textile, sculpture, performance, and filmmaking. Each work of the series named from the 12 stages of the ancient Malian indigo dyeing process:

In recent works, she expands to incorporate other media and approaches that evoke that which is invisible and undocumented. She is interested in the relationship between spirituality, dreaming and the role of the artist in disseminating symbolic imagery to provide a space for healing against contexts of colonialism and loss.
