Doug Cocker (1945 – )

Born in Perth, Doug Cocker studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee between 1963 and 1968. He subsequently went on to lecture in sculpture at Nene College in Northampton as well as several posts teaching at the University of Edinburgh, Glasgow School of Art, Grays School of Art and his alma mater.

Much of Cocker’s work focuses on his family’s farming and blacksmith heritage. Cocker’s work often explores the power and strength of nature. The artist uses natural materials, such as wood, to explore types of movement and the relationship between the object and the picture plane.
