Paul Furneaux (1962 – )

Paul Furneaux is an Edinburgh-based artist who has focused his work on exploring traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques for the last decade.

Furneaux was introduced to these techniques during time spent in Japan thanks to the Monbusho scholarship from Edinburgh College of Art which sent him to Tama Art University in Tokyo. The artist spent four years in Japan, studying Japanese culture and artistic techniques. In 2003 the artist took up residency at the Centre for Contemporary printmaking in Connecticut, USA, where his prints began to explore types of gardens, both Japanese and Scottish.

Furneaux was a recipient of the RSA Salvesen Scholarship and was elected a Royal Scottish Academician in 2006.
