Mhairi Killin (1967 – )

Mhairi Killin has lived and worked on the Scottish Isle of Iona since 1997. An alumna of the Glasgow School of art where she studied Constructed Textiles, the artist went on to study an MPhil in Public Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and a Certificate in Field Archaeology from Glasgow University.

Her multi-disciplinary work explores the island landscapes that surround her as she seeks to understand theories of ‘place’ from specific perspectives. As well as this, the artist is concerned with how religious and political structures have shaped the physical and metaphysical landscapes in which we reside.

Killin is a founding member of 6 Degrees WEST artists’ collective, which represented Scotland at the RESArtists Conference in Montreal in 2010. Her most recent work explores Iconoclasm and the impact of the Reformation on auditory landscapes of the islands of Lewis and Iona.
