Born in Aberdeen in 1952, Ian Howard studied at Edinburgh College of Art during the early 1970s where he would eventually take position as Principal of the College from 2001-2011.
His artistic practice is multi-disciplinary and encompasses painting, drawing and printmaking inspired by recurring themes, including the intersection between art and science, alchemy and medieval and renaissance iconography. He is an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture, and currently lives and works in France.
