Agnes Miller Parker (1895 – 1980)

Agnes Miller Parker was born in Irvine and studied at Glasgow School of Art. She later taught the School before marrying fellow student William McCance.

Much like her husband, the artist was influenced by the Cubist and Vorticist movements. Little is known about much of her personal life, but we do know she spent time practicing in Northern England, Wales and Glasgow. In the 1930s she became well known for her distinctive woodcut illustrations produced for the Gregynog Press, making sets of engravings for several Thomas Hardy novels in the 1950s, as well as a number of celebrated illustrations for The Fables of Aesop in the 1930s.
