Adrian Wiszniewski (1958 – )

Wiszniewski is a Scottish artist and member of the New Glasgow Boys, a group of artists who emerged from Glasgow School of Art and led a renaissance in Scottish figurative painting during the late 1980s. He was influenced by New Image painting in the early part of the 1980s, combining figurative art with social commentary.

Since graduating in the 1980s, Wiszniewski has explored several different types of media including print, music and illustration and has since attained international status.

His work is held by many international collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Tate Britain, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the National Galleries of Scotland. Wiszniewski’s influence is recognised through several awards including the Mark Rothko Memorial Award (1984) and the Lord Provost Gold Medal of the City of Glasgow (1999).
